The Drive-By Truckers will return to Knoxville on Thursday, April 7th to the Valarium for yet another great rock show! The Truckers are touring to support their latest album Go-Go Boots

and their newest documentary The Secret to a Happy Ending.

This will no doubt be a BIG TIME show, so make sure you get your tickets here now! Maybe we can get them to do an in-store performance that afternoon at the Disc Exchange...we'll see.

Here We Rest is the second album from Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, and Isbell’s third. Arcade Fire bringin' it to The Suburbs

Congrats to the Arcade Fire on their win last night at the 53rd Grammy Awards ceremony for Best Album of 2010 with The Suburbs.

This album was included in many writers and snobs' lists alike, including my own Best of 2010 list...clearly the powers that be either 1) agreed, 2) didn't like Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, or 3) just wanted to throw absolutely everyone off their trail. That was one of the most surprising, exciting and hopeful wins I have seen in quite some time. Congrats to the Canucks. See other winners and nominees here.

Perhaps this is a sign of things to come, with a few lesser known names winning like the Arcade Fire and Esperanza Spalding, and not as much as the glossed-over, over produced and over-played pop and hip-hop, with more insightful and artistic music being focused on, and not as much of the big-machine, mass produced factorized hits and obvious choices.

Let's hope, at least.

Top 10 Albums of 2010

(From early December, but just now getting here to the blog...and originally posted here in Maryville's Daily Times Weekend Section):

2010 was a wonderful year for music, so it has been very hard to pick out THE (read: "MY") Top 10...there might actually have been too much good music to fully digest, and I'm afraid that I have fallen victim to the circumstance. But, alas, it is my duty to pick ten, so here we go, in no particular order (which probably defeats the point of a "top ten", but everyone else has their top lists and ranked albums, so mine will now be known as a rough, working list that is subject to change at a moment's notice. Besides, there are technically a couple more weeks in 2010...)

The Drive-By Truckers - The Big To-Do - The Truckers returned to their hard rocking roots and their most raucous album since 2005's The Dirty South. Several tracks that stick out to me: "Daddy Learned to Fly", "This Fucking Job", “Birthday Boy” and the retelling of the non-fictional stories in "The Wig He Made Her Wear" and the rolling, circus-themed "Flying Wallendas". Patterson Hood checks his facts and presents them as only the Truckers can. Be on the lookout for the new DBT record Go-Go Boots in February.

Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues – Justin Townes Earle is the modern king of the old time sound. His music emanates from the 30s and 40s folk-country blues/almost a western jazz-swing of a genre that is all but forgotten on a decent size scale, except by the likes of him and local Knoxville group Cristabel and the Jons. Suggested tracks are the bouncing “Move Over Mama” and the old-timey bluesy tune “Wandering”.

Marty Stuart – Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions – Traditional country preservationist/revivalist/flag-waver heads to the famed RCA Studio B in Nashville to record his best record in years in the same studio that hosted Waylon, Willie, Dolly, Porter, Ernest Tubb, Roger Miller, some guy named Elvis and countless others over the years, beginning in 1957.

Danzig - Deth Red Sabaoth – It’s Danzig. It’s his best record in twenty years. It’s hard. It rocks. And it moves. What else do you need to know? Check out “Ju Ju Bone”. I suggest getting it from the Disc Exchange in Knoxville on Chapman Highway, where he stopped in to do so some shopping before his show in November at The Valarium. Get Disc Exchange’s Andrew or Courtney to tell you the story and show you the picture.

Glossary - Feral Fire – My favorite band from Middle Tennessee (Murfreesboro) that you’ve probably never heard of, but you should, and won’t be disappointed. This is their sixth full length. I would start at the beginning of their catalog and try to catch up quickly (www.glossary.us). Each record has progressed and the songs seem to write themselves now. They are all different enough to stand alone, but close enough that you know what you’re gonna get from Glossary…and you’re not disappointed, even after six albums. Plus, the co-ed vocal pairing of Joey and Kelly Kneiser can’t be beat, accompanied by some of the best steel pedal melodies and playing in “Your Heart to Haunt”. “Save Your Money for the Weekend” is a highlight, and is good advice, too, as Glossary seems to make it to Knoxville once or twice a year (when their steel pedal/guitarist/vocalist Todd Beene isn’t touring with Lucero), so be on the lookout.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs – I didn’t make it even halfway through this record before I knew it was something special…but you already knew that, and probably already have it in your collection. If not, you know what to do.

Ryan Bingham - Junky Star – The gruff and growl behind last year’s Crazy Heart soundtrack is a good lead up to this year’s Junky Star, his third full length album. Bingham picks up right where he left off with his experiences, knowledge and pain that are well beyond his mere 29 years of seemingly hard living. Bingham and his band The Dead Horses fluctuate between “Crazy Heart”-like ballads, Southwestern swing and jangly Texas shuffles that beg to be heard in person down in a dive somewhere deep in the heart of Texas. Put the record on, grab a six pack and sit back for an hour.

Band of Horses - Infinite Arms – Probably my favorite album of the year if I had to choose. Definitely the most played of this year’s collection. Head Horseman Ben Bridwell essentially assembled an entirely new band before recording this album. BoH kept their same character, texture and sound by keeping with the dreamy vocals and air-y guitars, but were able to keep it fresh with more ups and downs as well as their progression with more complex harmonies throughout the collection of songs. Infinite Arms is slightly more laid back than their first two outings, but is no less admirable and aurally pleasing. Try out “Laredo”, “Blue Beard”, “Older” and “Dilly”.

Hank III - Rebel Within – Shelton Hank Williams III is back with another honky tonk hell raiser. This time, though, he branches out into other directions of his own hillbilly and hellbilly genres with several slow ballads (“Gone But Not Forgotten” and “Karmageddon”) that showcase and highlight his songwriting and self reflection more so than his previous albums. Don’t worry hardcore fans- there’s plenty of honky tonkin’ with cuts like “Gettin’ Drunk & Fallin’ Down”, “Drinkin’ Over Momma” and a bit of East Tennessee folklore and legend with “Moonshiner’s Life”, a tribute to the late Popcorn Sutton.

Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown – I tried to not let this one in here, but it’s starting to get at me…I at least knew what I was getting myself into now with U2 Junior here, but there’s more to this album than 2008’s Only by the Night. The KOL took up residence in New York to record this collection and subsequently added instrumentation more indigenous to their upbringing in Oklahoma and Nashville. “Back Down South” offers a weepy country fiddle and more, a complete one-eighty from their huge atmospheric arena anthems of the last few years. “Mary” offers almost Beach Boys-like harmonies on the opening “haaaa-haaaaaaas” and has cries that are faintly reminiscent of old school doo-wop. Several of the other tracks could be fun pop/dance songs as well. Long story short- you know what you’re going to get with the Kings at this point if you’ve followed their transformation from early dirty garage rockers to their larger than life pretty boy sound now. If you like it, you do. If you don’t you don’t. I like this one more than the last…It’s still no Youth and Young Manhood in my opinion though.

Against Me! - White Crosses – You know that old cliché about punk rock with pop sensibility? Yeah. Here’s a textbook example.

American Bang - (self titled) – Nashville boys finally getting some national exposure after signing with major label. Good rocking album for a party or driving around your small town in.

Gaslight Anthem - American Slang – See definition of cliché of punk rock with pop sensibility, too, along with Against Me!.

Jamey Johnson - The Guitar Song – The only guy making old school sounding country music on a national scale and making headway with it…and he’s the only one that is believable singing the songs he’s singing. More importantly, he’s writing them himself (mostly).

Roger Alan Wade - Deguello Motel - A Chattanooga native and kin to Johnny Knoxville, Roger Alan Wade has written some big songs for some big artists like Bocephus and Cash. This is his new album. Check him out and give him a shot. He's just a good ol' boy that writes songs and plays them every night for a living.

The Band Perry – (self titled) – Just got this the other day, and I don’t do a whole lot of new “commercial country music”, but the harmonies and the vocals of Kimberly Perry and her brothers (all are from just up the road in Greeneville, Tennessee) are amazing. Songs aren’t bad either. And she’s easy on the ol’ eyes too. “If I Die Young” just hit #1 on Billboard Country- not bad for more talented East Tennesseans hitting it big in country.

2010 Knoxville Concerts in no order, and I’m glad a save my ticket stubs in my trusty ticket stub book:

Kris Kristofferson – Tennessee Theatre 1/31/10 – A Legend perfoms. A Legends Kills. A Legend shook my hand and took a picture with me. I’ll never forget. Look up the songs he’s written if you’re unfamiliar with his body of work. He even surprised me with a couple at the show.

Mastodon – The Valarium 5/21/10 – I was surprised I had my head left after they tore it off, much less my ears. And their visuals projected on the screen behind them blew my mind just as quick as their audio assault did my ears.

Tift Merritt – The Square Room 6/23/10 – An absolutely gorgeous sound and show. Check her out if you don’t know about her.

Weird Al Yankovic – Tennessee Theatre 7/8/10 – Say what you want…the man puts on a hell of a show, and has more hits (and costume changes) than most of your favorite bands… COMBINED.

Black Crowes – Tennessee Theatre 9/15/10 – I finally wasn’t disappointed, not even one bit, after seeing the Crowes for the umpteenth time. Solid show, start to finish.

Foothills Fall Festival – Maryville – 10/8/10 through 10/10/10 – Finally got to see Tracy Lawrence…never saw him in the early 90s, when he was big…and I was 12. Good festival all the way around too. Fantastic people watchin’ too, if you’re in to that kind of thing...

Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth – Knoxville Coliseum 9/30/10 – What bit of ears and a head for a metal show that I had left after the Mastodon show were completely blown away and blown off by three of the four heavyweights of thrash metal…why couldn’t we get Metallica here to finish me off? Kerry King of Slayer might be the Devil himself.

Rogue Wave and Midlake – Bijou Theatre 10/5/10 – Took the fiancée to see one of her faves Rogue Wave, so it was just a nice time to see her enjoy a show, since she puts up with so many random shows of mine (as you can tell by this list). Both Rogue Wave and Midlake put on a great show. Midlake may be the best band with a flute since Marshall Tucker and Jethro Tull. Bonus points for Midlake since they had two flutists at one point. Midlake = winner of the flute-off.

Travis Tritt – Cotton Eyed Joe 10/7/10 – 90s country rocker gives a solo show at the Cotton Eyed Joe, and doesn’t disappoint a sold out crowd. Tritt played all the old favorites and the newer ones too. I spoke with TT for a moment and tried to convince him to do another project with Marty Stuart…For what it’s worth, he just smiled and laughed, so I don’t really know.

Social Distortion with Lucero (and Frank Turner) – The Valarium 11/9/10 – Best concert of the year by far…of course Social D is my #1 favorite band of all time, and they were playing a show in Knoxville with another of my top ten bands Lucero. First time Social D had been here since ’92 at the Bijou I’m told, so it was a big deal to us fans. I had a big time, as did the rest of the crowd. I just wish I could remember the last half of the show…

Ryan is fresh off his Oscar win this earlier this year with T-Bone Burnett for "The Weary Kind", the theme from Crazy Heart, featuring Jeff Bridges, and is touring all of May.

Crazy Heart out on DVD today!

Get out and get it, especially if you haven't seen it yet. Crazy Heart won two Academy Awards last month for Best Actor (Jeff Bridges) and Best Song ("The Weary Kind" by Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett).

This is one of the best "music films" that has ever been made. It's a classic country-song-turned-into-a-film about livin' hard and the inevitable downward spiral, and then the journey to overcome personal demons for a chance at redemption...and it's fantastic. Trust me. I don't really push movies alot, but the combination of the music, the story, the cast and the acting/playing/singing make this film the real deal.

Just go get it. Or rent it. Or however you choose to view films.

SDB caught up with Lucero's Ben Nichols this week via email. Ben was gracious enough to answer the following questions for (all of) us. Read below:

SDB: First of all, are Brian and Roy alright after their mugging and Roy's broken jaw? What happened and where?

Ben: Random kids running the streets picking fights with or sucker punching random people. Roy got hit and then a half hour later Brian ran into the same kids. It wasn't really a mugging it was simply asshole kids. About seven of them. One would punch a person on the street and the rest would scatter and run. Could've happened anywhere.

SDB: Y'all just played what seems to be your annual trip to SXSW. How were the shows? Were you able to catch anyone that we need to know about that we may not know about now?

Ben: We played five shows in two days and all of them were really good. We had the horns with us and it was a lot of fun. A pain in the ass but a lot of fun.

SDB: What's the 2010 plan for Lucero after these tour dates (including Coachella and Bonnaroo)? Any ideas or details for the next album yet?

Ben: We haven't started writing the next album yet. Haven't really had a chance to catch my breath since 1372 came out. Hopefully I'll have a little time later this summer. Probably not though... I have a feeling we're going to be on tour most of this year.

SDB: Lucero added an unmistakable Springsteen-ian-like sound with the addition of Rick Steff's keys and accordion on 2006's "Rebels, Renegades and Sworn Brothers". Last year, y'all released your 6th and major label debut "1372 Overton Park" to rave reviews and best-of lists everywhere, including my list here. How and why did the addition of the horns come about, and how does it help further Lucero's sound? What's different with a major label versus before?

Ben: All labels are really about the same. None of them want to spend any money. All of them want to own your recordings. Big or small the only difference is how much red tape you have to go through to get the same things accomplished. Touring constantly year in and year out is the only way I know to actually sell a few records. There's no easy route for a band like us. You've gotta put in the work. The horns came about because we are lucky enough to live in a city like Memphis that has a ton of great musicians in it. John C. knew Jim Spake and Jim was kind enough to put some horn parts on a couple of demo songs. We thought it was amazing and the rest of the record got shaped around that Memphis Soul idea.

SDB: How did y'all's home base of Memphis affect the musical interests of you and the rest of the group when y'all were forming back in the day? How did the town react to your sound, especially a town known for its soul, R&B and of course, rock and roll...obviously it affected "1372..." ?

Ben: Like I said there are a lot of talented musicians in Memphis. We always came from a more punk rock, self-taught, it-doesn't-matter-if-you-can't-play-guitar-write-songs-anyways approach. But over the years getting to meet and work with guys like Rick Steff and Jim Spake has really helped shape the band into something bigger. Folks around town seem to be receptive enough. Hell we're not really home enough to know what the hometown thinks.

SDB: Ben, tell us about your first solo album, Last Pale Light in the West. It is not a totally new sound and vibe as far as the album goes, but it feels like a natural progression and a logical progression in sound for a solo record. (Oh, and it's really good too...it was on my best-of 2009 list as well!) Last Pale Light sounds like it could, and should be, the soundtrack to a spaghetti western film. Did you have that in mind when you were recording it, or was that even a thought to you? What does the album sound like to you? A buddy of mine described it to me before I heard it as "just a good ol' drinkin' record"...I replied, "Well, isn't that a Lucero record?"

Ben: It's supposed to have a western feel. It is based on a book Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. The book takes place in Mexico around 1849. So the record is supposed to have an older sound to it.

SDB: Before "1372 Overton Park", it seemed like y'all put out an album every year or every other year or so. How have y'all been so consistent with your music over these years, but have re-invented your "sound" over and over as it keeps getting better and better?

Ben: I think we're learning how to record a better record. The songwriting is what I think makes the band consistent. I think I'm still writing the same kinds of songs that I did when the band started, hopefully writing better, but they are still coming from the same place.

SDB: Tell us about the "$5 Cover" program that took place a couple of summers ago in Memphis with director Craig Brewer (of Hustle & Flow fame). What's the back story, the current story and what's going on with "$5 Cover" moving forward? How can we see the installments of the series, and how can we see the Lucero episode?

Ben: It's all on the internet. It was made for the internet actually. Craig wanted to do a psuedo-reality show about the local Memphis music scene. I think they're working with different directors in different cities now making new episodes.

SDB: Who do we need to know about that is coming out of the Memphis scene now that we should look into, so we can say that Ben Nichols told us so before they were big?

Ben: All the bands we toured with last fall are from Memphis. Cedric Burnside & Lightnin Malcom are great. The Dirty Streets. Everybody on that tour was good.

SDB: Just a couple more questions for you...

SDB: Do you have a favorite song that you've written? If so why and is it the same as your favorite one to play live?

Ben: Nope. I like some better than others but there's not really a favorite.

SDB: Is there a song out there that you love that you didn't write and wish you had?

Ben: A ton of them.

SDB: What are 5 artists/records that you've been digging on lately that you might suggest to our readers? Or a few records from 2009 that we need to know about?

Ben: Glossary, Joey Kneiser's solo record, The American Princes, Cedric & Malcom, Josh Ritter

SDB: Who else/what are some of your biggest influences, and what did you take from them?

Ben: There's a lot of influences too. Tom Waits, Shane MacGowan, Paul Westerberg, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, the same one's as every songwriter.

SDB: My fellow blogger "Davy Vegas" and I have a theory that the single greatest sound on the face of the earth is that of a well-played steel guitar. Being that you are well versed in many genres, and have been playing lately with the great Todd Beene of Glossary, and you are an obvious fan of the "old sound", is this a theory you can support or do you have other thoughts on the subject?

Ben: I don't think I believe in a "single greatest" anything. Todd Beene is pretty awesome though.

SDB: Glossary is now on y'all's label "Liberty and Lament". How did this come along? Their record from last fall Feral Fall is great by the way.

Ben: We had a distribution deal through our manager. That's basically what Liberty & Lament is and that's how we put out some of our old cds. It's a damn shame no record label will give Glossary the kind of deal they deserve so we figured we'd try to at least help get Feral Fire out there a little bit.

SDB: Ok, this is it-- My dream show of all dream shows is Lucero, Glossary and Drive-By Truckers. What's the chance of that ever happening in Knoxville, or nearby at least? I'd like to think that this show was my idea, as Lenore Kinder (who was featured in your Dreaming in America dvd) and I discussed this show lineup as far back as 2003...so I'd like to take some ownership in the show if it were to ever happen! Please make it so.

Ben: We'll see.

In Cahoots with Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers

Last month, on Valentine's Day as a matter fact, the Drive-By Truckers rolled their rock show into Knoxville to the Bijou Theatre. The Truckers are currently touring in promotion and preparation of their upcoming release this week of their tenth studio album, The Big To-Do.

We caught up with Patterson Hood, the long hauler and lead Trucker, to discuss the new album, a summer tour with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and a few bands that we all need to know about.

Saints Don't Bother: How would you describe the newest album The Big To-Do (your first release on ATO Records) to your older fans that have been listening for a while and to those newer fans that aren't as familiar with the progression and history of the band and album flow? In short- how does TBT-D lineup in comparison to the previous albums and to further the sound and 'agenda' of the Truckers?

Patterson Hood: It's probably a bit more concise and Rocking than some of our later records. Definitely more melodic, a little more attention paid to musical structuring. I think it's a really good sounding record sonically, definitely our best sounding record. I'm very proud of the songs and the way we played them. All of our records have been recorded more or less live in the studio and this one isn't an exception, but the band is really playing great right now.

SDB: Right off the bat, before a note is even heard on DBT albums, y'all have some of the most interesting song/album titles ("The Wig He Made Her Wear", "The Flying Wallendas", The Big To-Do ). Are your titles a conscious part of songwriting and putting the album together, or are they after thoughts that just seem to really compliment the songs/albums nicely?

PH: I often have a title before actually writing the song. I usually think about an idea for a long time before actually writing the song, then actually write the song very quickly. Finding the right title is sometimes the impetus or way into the actual song. In the case of this album, we had
the album's title before most of the songs on it.

SDB: What's your favorite track on The Big To-Do and why?

PH: I'm really proud of them all but "Birthday Boy" is probably my favorite. I always love Cooley's songs and this is one of his very best ever.

SDB: The DBTs are touring with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers this summer (one of my all time faves, and the most under-rated American rock musician). How did this come about? Did it have anything to do with your cover of his song "Rebels" (it's one of my favorites) on last year's rarities and b-sides collection The Fine Print? Why, of all of his songs, did y'all pick that one? How did he respond to y'all wanting to cover it and to the finished product?

PH: I have no idea if that had any direct affect. We're all HUGE Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers fans from way back. They're probably collectively our favorite band on earth so it's a real honor to open for them. We recorded "Rebels" for the TV show King Of The Hill. We were asked to for that specific song because they wanted a more guitar rock version of that song for the show. Tom Petty played a character on that episode (which became a reoccurring role for him) and they told us he had signed off on us performing his song on the show. That was also exciting because we all loved that show.

SDB: Y'all were in Knoxville a couple weeks back on Valentine's Day, and played one of the better shows I've seen from y'all in some time. Is there a different approach to tours with a new album to promote, is there something we don't know or is everything really clicking right now? I would say it must be that y'all are well-rested, but 2009 was one of the busier years of recent past with Booker T's album and tour, your solo album, a dvd, a movie soundtrack that was shot just outside of here in Knoxville, a little bit of regular touring, etc...what else did I miss? What's different than a year ago? Two years ago?

PH: The band is in an especially good place right now. we have our magic lineup and everything is just clicking like it's supposed to be, We all loved The Bijou.

SDB: I see that y'all have several projects and another album this year, so 2010 doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. What can we expect for this year from the DBTs?

PH: We'll be touring extensively behind The Big To-Do and at some point releasing a second album from the sessions called "Go-Go Boots" which is the polar opposite version of what we do. I really like it too, but for different reasons.

SDB: Couple more things- What are 5 bands, acts, groups or singers that you are digging now that we all need to know about?

PH: Spoon, Iron and Wine, Bloodkin, Collin Hering, and Glossary all have exceptional new albums. David Barbe (who has produced our last 7 or so albums) also has a fantastic new album with his band (David Barbe and The Quick Hooks) called "Love It, Don't Choke It To Death" which is coming out this week and I really love.

SDB: What excites you the most about this year professionally and personally?

PH: Personally, my family. We have a 5 year old little girl who is my pride and joy and a 5 month old little boy who is super cool. Professionally it's the band that I'm most excited about. Looking forward to going out and playing this album live a few hundred times.

Waking up the sleeping giant

Obviously it's been quite some time since we've had any kind of semblance of consistent work, updates, ramblings, posts, rants or whatever. Yeah, sometimes, life gets in the way...and sometimes life takes up about a year of your time. In this case, it was my life, and my time. But here we are, halfway through the second month of 2010, and we're getting a post in now.

It helps to be motivated sometimes...and to be motivated by the reason that this blog was started...music. Rock and Roll to be specific, but any music will do, as long as it meets my standards and and has my seal of approval.

Which brings me to last night's events at the Bijou Theatre here in Knoxville. The Drive-By Truckers returned to Knoxville for the first time since January 2009...and they were long overdue. Let's see, what's happened since they were here? They put out a Grammy-winning album with Booker T. and played Bonnaroo (and a tour) with him, released a rarities album, a live dvd/cd from Austin, made a documentary, Patterson released his long-awaited second solo album and contributed songs to another unrelated movie, and much more I'm sure.

Oh, and they have a new album due out next month (more to come on that later though) with their new label ATO Records.

So the DBTs played the Bijou for the first time, and of course didn't disappoint, even showcasing more than a handful of new tracks off the upcoming album. You can see the set list here, but a few highlights (read: rarities) to me and our crew were: Women Without Whiskey, The Company I Keep, 18 Wheels of Love and 72 (This Highway's Mean). Other favorites were Zip City, The Living Bubba, Sink Hole and A World of Hurt (which we discussed and believe that we've never actually heard that live...)

Being that several new songs were played, and I haven't been on top of things as much as I have in the past, I was unfamiliar with the lot of them except for This Fucking Job, thanks to the local college station WUTK. As with many Truckers' songs, it sometimes takes a few listens to really start to hear their songs...especially when the first time is live, it's loud, it's exciting and a few too many beers have been consumed already to be a stickler for all the details and nuances of the new songs. That's why they make albums, folks, so we can sit and home and dissect them in the comfort and privacy, as well as the sanctity and solitude, of our homes, or headphones, or wherever you do your "study-listenin'" at.

I'm not gonna bore you too much more with anymore details...but I have to be honest: this show renewed my faith in the DBTs, and here's how and why. With all their side projects and movies, and solo records, and staff changes in the last couple of years, I was beginning to be concerned about the direction of the band...and if their heart was still in it, as well as the fire of previous years (2001-2005/06). Their focus hadn't been there on the songs as much as the albums in the years mentioned, and the shows just seemed like they were becoming just another night at the office...which is bound to happen to everyone sooner or later. Being such a big fan and follower since 1999, I was hoping that maybe I was just being paranoid about my guys (and gal). After the show (actually, about four or five songs into it), I realized it was just me. They were out there with smiles on their faces and fires on their asses. And it showed, thankfully.

My only complaint, however, was that I wish my pictures turned out better from our amazing Statler and Waldorf seats in the box overlooking Cooley and Shonna. My camera is new to me, and I'm still working out the kinks (i.e. operator errors...if you know anything about a Nikon D80, holler at me). Needless to say, pictures aren't good, memory is fuzzy...hazy at best, and we had a great time. Once again, all is right with the world....sounds like a Truckers show to me.

I guess their giant has woken up too...but I doubt that it was ever asleep.

I think I was.

Wilco is at the Tennessee Theatre tonight! Unfortunately, if you don't have tickets, you probably won't see them this time around as the tickets sold out some time ago. However, you might be able to grab a glimpse of them at the Disc Exchange today at 2pm for their dvd signing. The catch is, though, that you had to be one of the first 150 at DE this morning at 9 to buy their new dvd and you get a pass to come back to meet them and get only the dvd signed.

Still pretty cool though. Anyways, good luck, and I hope to see you at the show!
