Son Volt will be in Chattanooga on Valentine's Saturday at Rhythm & Brews for a romantic night, full of songs of desperation, alienation, loneliness and lost hope.

Definitely sounds like a great Valentine's show to me.

Jay Farrar and company are touring the East Coast and Midwest all February, as they get ready to release their sixth album in May. This record is the follow up to 2007's The Search, which featured one of my favorite songs of all time "Methamphetamine", as well as "Slow Hearse", "Beacon Soul" and "The Picture" showcasing a horn section- a vast departure from the storied Son Volt sound. Hopefully, we will be able to get a sneak peak, or some inside info on the new record. We'll keep you updated...

If you miss the show in Chatty this weekend because of the commercial holiday, you have another chance to catch them in Asheville at the Orange Peel on Tuesday. I suggest going to both shows, both just an hour and a half away, as they have never let me down in the handful of times that I have seen them.

New Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Download "Seven Mile Island" from Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's upcoming album here. The album will be out 0n February 17th, and we can't wait! The 400 Unit features Browan Lollar on guitar, Derry deBorja (formerly of Son Volt, too!) on keys, Jimbo Hart on bass and Chad Gamble on drums.

We had the pleasure of catching Isbell and the guys over the holidays in Chattanooga, and couldn't be more excited to hear the new album after hearing a few of the new tunes there. A couple of other tracks are streaming online at Isbell's Myspace- check it!

TONIGHT: The Dirty Guv'nahs free show @ Valarium

Catch local up and comers The Dirty Guv'nahs at the Valarium. The show is free, as a thank you to Knoxville from the Metro Pulse, the local weekly. The Guv'nahs have been drummin' up support along the trail with their campaign of classic Stones-y rock and Black Crowes-y blues sounds, mixed with a bit of funk, with about six parts of high-energy. They are in the process of recording a follow up to 2007's The Dirty Guv'nahs Don't Need No Money, at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Athens, Georgia with producer David Barbe (Drive-by Truckers, Son Volt, Bright Eyes, Whigs).

Be on the lookout for these guys as they come to your town. They'll shake your hand (and your ass) and kiss your baby (and your ol' lady too). Watchout.
